Genève-Servette is building muscle for next season. The club announces the return of prolific Swedish striker Linus Omark and the contract extensions of Sami Vatanen and Valtteri Filppula.
Omark, 35, made an impression in 2020-21 in Geneva, during his first visit. He had panicked the counters (71 points in 59 matches, play-off included), before returning to Sweden for personal reasons. His return delights the Eagles, who hope to “turn a corner next season”, said a press release on Thursday.
Geneva-Servette had agreed to shift the last year of the Swede’s contract to the 2022-2023 season. And as Omark and his family had enjoyed themselves a lot in Geneva, the player extended his lease for an additional season, until the end of the 2023-2024 financial year.
Finnish Olympic champions Sami Vatanen (30) and Valtteri Filppula (38) have extended their contracts for two years and one year respectively. With 39 points in 38 matches, Vatanen particularly shone for a defender last season. He will form a formidable defensive duo with Henrik Tömmernes. Filppula for his part has proven to be a leader in the locker room and on the ice (77 pts in 48 matches), notes the GSHC. The club is still looking for foreign reinforcements.
Arrival of Keanu Derungs
GE-Servette also announces that three players from the Geneva team will join the expanded framework of the 1st team. They are Thomas Moreno and U18 internationals Kelian Fiebiger and Antoine Guignard. The team also records the arrival of Keanu Derungs (20 years old). The Swiss striker arrives from Canada, where he played his last three junior seasons with the Victoria Royals (WHL). He scored 25 points in 33 games last season. He signed for two years.
