A gunman opened fire at a factory in northern Maryland on Thursday, killing at least three people, police said.
The suspect, who was not immediately identified, opened fire at a Columbia Machine factory in Smithsburg, Maryland. There was no immediate word on a possible motive. Maryland police announced the deaths of three people. It was not immediately clear if others were injured.
State Governor Larry Hogan said a police officer was shot by the attacker. A spokesman for Columbia Machine said the company was cooperating with authorities in their investigation, but declined to say how many workers were on the site at the time.
