The price of the Samsung Smart Monitor M8 is dropping all over the place. Launched in the spring at €749, this 32″ 4K connected screen is now on sale at €649 at Fnac, Darty, Boulanger or Amazon. In addition, for any purchase until October 23, you can obtain a refund of 75 € in constituting a file on Samsung’s website. With this offer, the Smart Monitor M8 costs €575.
This screen has a 65 W USB-C port compatible with DisplayPort (this is the one we will use to connect a USB-C Mac), a 15 W USB-C port that does not support video and a port micro HDMI 2.0 (micro HDMI to HDMI cable).
Its main interest is to have its own operating system, Tizen, which allows it to operate independently, like a television. With the supplied remote control, you can launch the apps (YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+, Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, etc.) and control all the settings. AirPlay compatible, the Smart Monitor M8 can also be used to mirror the screen of an iPhone, iPad or Mac wirelessly.
Samsung Smart Monitor M8 review: a (too) versatile connected screen
It’s an interesting product for those looking for a screen to do everything, but it has weak points: its wired connection is limited, you should not rely too much on its capacities for videoconferencing (microphone and webcam not developed) and its speakers are disappointing for a monitor intended for multimedia.
In a completely different genre, the LG UltraFine 24″ 4K and 27″ 5K monitors are still on sale at respectively 399 € et 799 €. In particular, they enjoy very good image quality and good integration with Macs.
