Ten years ago, the festival of joy to commemorate the liberation from the Nazi regime took place for the first time at Vienna’s Heldenplatz. Until then, the square in the center of the federal capital was occupied year following year by the so-called commemoration of the dead by right-wing fraternities. Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen recalled this in his speech on Monday evening.
