At the end of an undecided match, and following a second period during which the team coached by Léon Waitronyie abused long balls, the Caledonians ended up cracking.
In difficulty on aerial outings at the end of the game, goalkeeper Marie-Pierre Atrewe came close to giving the Fijians a goal in the 84th minute. The ball she mightn’t catch bounced off her legs, before returning to Ema Mereia’s feet. The shot from the opposing striker was deflected in extremis for a corner by Caroline Naaoutchoué. A minute later, on a cross from Laulaba, Atrewe once once more released the ball into the studs of Mereia, who managed to score. Fiji reaches the last four.
The Caledonians, following winning their three group matches (1-0 once morest Samoa, 4-1 once morest Vanuatu and 6-0 once morest Tonga) are eliminated.
