And during that time, what has Luffy been doing? Well, training with Silvers Rayleigh, the right hand of the Pirate King. Rayleigh is a living legend who found the One Piece with Gol D. Roger and is considered one of the best swordsmen in the world. Much of his life remains a mystery (although we have been able to see more of him in flashbacks) but he has proven on several occasions that he is a powerful Haki usermaking him the perfect person to train Luffy.
Of these two years of time jump, Luffy trains with Rayleigh for a year and a half and he spends the last six months alone… So technically he spends more time with Rayleigh as a mentor than with any of his friends. Because although the anime extends for more than a thousand chapters, in reality all the events of ‘One Piece’ occur in a very short time and everything that Luffy and the crew experience before arriving at Sabaody happens in just a few months.
Con Zoro, Nami, Sanji, Usopp, Chopper, Robin y Franky, Luffy only stays for a few months (not to mention Brooke, whom they practically just met before separating), while he lives with Rayleigh for a year and a half. And without counting the legendary pirate, Ace y Dadan They would be the other two people Luffy has lived with the longest, although this was long before he began his journey as a pirate.
So maybe the Straw Hats haven’t been together that much (real) time, but the truth is that they have had a great time.
