Plumber in Vlaardingen receives area ban ‘for his own safety’

On March 21, the mayor closed the plumber’s home on Gretha Hofstralaan for the third time. Now he has also been given an area ban by the municipality. “That is for protection. If he is there, there is a good chance that it will happen once more,” says a spokesperson for the municipality. The area ban applies ‘until further notice’, more clarity will be provided on Tuesday.

Last night it happened once more at a building at the intersection of Wilhelminastraat and Willem Beukelszoonstraat. The explosion immediately caused a fire. According to a spokesperson, the building is completely burned out and uninhabitable.

Three injured

Three people were injured as a result of the explosion. According to the safety region, they were taken to hospital because they inhaled smoke. This concerns tenants of the building.

RTV Rijnmond reports that a garage box just next to the burned-out building is registered in the plumber’s name. The spokesperson for the safety region ‘assumes’ that this is indeed the case.

The police have been conducting extra surveillance in Vlaardingen for months. The plumber has been plagued by attacks since May last year. In addition to his home, two of his cars and his mother’s house were also targeted. The plumber has been in hiding with his family for some time. It is not known what the motive is for the wave of attacks. The man previously said he has “no idea where this all comes from.”
