The Interview
Archyde News: Dr. Ramirez, thank you for joining us. The Puebla legislature has recently approved several agreements focusing on education, including animal welfare campaigns and digital literacy. Could you elaborate on how the Ministry of Education plans to implement the animal welfare campaigns in schools?
Dr. Sofia Ramirez: Thank you for having me. We’re very excited about these initiatives. For the animal welfare campaigns, we’re developing age-appropriate curricula that will be integrated into existing science and civics classes. We’ll use engaging multimedia resources, including videos and interactive exercises, to teach students about responsible pet ownership, the importance of treating animals with respect, and the prevention of animal cruelty. We’re also planning workshops for teachers to equip them with the necessary tools and knowledge.
Archyde News: It sounds comprehensive. Another key area is the promotion of responsible use of technology. How will the ministry educate students, parents, and guardians about digital literacy and online safety?
Dr. Sofia Ramirez: This is a critical area in today’s world. We’re launching a multi-pronged approach. For students, we’ll introduce modules focusing on cyberbullying prevention, recognizing misinformation online, and protecting personal information. We’ll be partnering with experts in cybersecurity to develop these materials. for parents and guardians, we’re organizing workshops and providing online resources in both Spanish and indigenous languages, covering topics such as parental controls, monitoring online activity, and having open conversations with their children about their online experiences. We also plan to distribute informative pamphlets with helpful tips and guidelines throughout the community, reinforcing the message of safe and responsible technology use.
Archyde News: That’s great to hear. Many families in Puebla face unique challenges. How will the Ministry streamline the educational process for children returning to Mexico after living abroad?
Dr. Sofia ramirez: We understand the difficulties these families face. We’re implementing a flexible assessment process that recognizes prior learning, nonetheless of where it was acquired. We’ll offer bridge courses to help students catch up on any gaps in their knowledge or skills. we also need to ensure we provide culturally sensitive support to these returnees, helping them integrate into the Mexican education system and cultural context smoothly. The key goal is to prioritize the child’s right to education, considering their unique circumstances.
Archyde News: The legislature also emphasized the proper use of textbooks. How do you plan to encourage the reuse of these materials?
Dr. Sofia Ramirez: We are partnering with the National Family Association and the State Association of Parents to promote a culture of responsible textbook management. We’re emphasizing the importance of protecting these resources through various means, such as providing protective covers and encouraging careful handling. Additionally, we are exploring the implementation of textbook banks within schools, where students can donate used textbooks at the end of the school year for reuse by future students, creating a lasting cycle
Archyde News: These initiatives sound promising, Dr. Ramirez.what impact do you hope these educational policies will have on the future of Puebla?
