NIU Gymnastics Hosts Beauty and the Beast Meet & Senior Night | Feb 20

DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University gymnastics team is set to host its annual Beauty and the Beast Meet this Friday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. At the NIU Convocation Center. The Huskies will compete against Southeast Missouri State University and Wilberforce University, while the NIU wrestling team simultaneously takes on SIUE. Admission to the event is free, offering fans a unique opportunity to witness two Huskie athletic programs in action on the same night.

This year’s meet holds added significance as it will also be Senior Night for the NIU gymnastics team, honoring the contributions of Jocelyn Harbeck, Samantha Nickle, and Kiera O’Shea. The team will recognize these departing athletes following the competition, celebrating their dedication and achievements throughout their collegiate careers. The Huskies are coming off a strong performance against Bowling Green on Sunday, where they achieved a new season-high score of 48.850 on vault. Junior Dawsyn Sallee led the charge, tying a career-high with a score of 9.850 to secure first place. Harbeck and sophomore Drake White also achieved personal bests, earning scores of 9.800 and 9.825, respectively. Junior Mikayla Brown further contributed to the Huskies’ success, winning first place on the balance beam with a score of 9.800.

Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) enters the competition with momentum from a recent victory against Illinois State last Saturday, winning with a final score of 194.150 to Illinois State’s 192.475. Taylor Ingle, a senior for the Redhawks, is a key all-around performer and qualified for NCAA Regionals last season. According to available data, Ingle currently holds an all-around NQS (NCAA Qualifying Score) of 38.930, along with scores of 9.815 on floor exercise and 9.775 on vault.

Wilberforce University also brings recent success to the meet, having posted a season-high score of 184.875 in their last competition against Fisk University. The Bulldogs were led by Diamond Cook, who achieved a program record score of 9.825 to win on floor exercise. Sydney Smith consistently leads Wilberforce on vault and uneven bars, holding the highest average scores in both events.
