Hilary Duff and musician Matthew Koma stepped out for a date night in New York City on Monday, enjoying dinner at The Eighty Six steakhouse in Manhattan’s West Village. The outing came shortly after Duff publicly shared her emotional struggle with a strained relationship with her sister, Haylie Duff.
The 38-year-old actress and singer was photographed sporting a preppy ensemble – a grey vest over a white tee paired with black jeans, and booties. Her signature blonde hair was styled with extensions from The Hair Shop, and her makeup, expertly applied by Kelsey Deenihan Fisher, completed the seem. The couple, married since 2019, enjoyed a child-free evening, leaving their blended family of four at home.
Duff and Koma share three daughters: Banks, seven, Mae, four, and Townes, 21 months. Duff is as well mother to son Luca Comrie, who will turn 14 on March 20, from her previous marriage to retired NHL player Mike Comrie, which concluded in 2016.
A Musical Connection
Duff and Koma’s relationship began in 2013 whereas collaborating on Duff’s fifth studio album, Breathe In. Breathe Out, and blossomed into a romance in 2017. Their musical partnership continues, with Duff recently collaborating with Koma, whose stage name is Matthew Bair, on her sixth studio album, Luck… Or Something. The album currently sits at No. 191 on the Billboard 200 chart.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Monday, Duff discussed her children’s musical tastes, noting a preference for contemporary music. “They love my music. It’s very sweet,” she said. “But if we don’t secure to it first, it’s straight up like for the whole entire day. K-pop? Or like Raining Tacos. It’s absolutely horrific. Or Chicken Wing.”
Opening Up About Family
The dinner date followed a candid conversation on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, where Duff tearfully discussed her estrangement from her sister, Haylie Duff. “My sister and I don’t speak,” Duff revealed. “I hope it’s not forever, but it’s for right now…It’s definitely a raw nerve…That’s the person I grew up with, the only one.” She acknowledged the complexity of family relationships, stating, “I love my family in certain ways and certain memories. And also like huge struggles have, you know, occurred and [I’m] not putting that one responsibility on anybody involved, you know, assuming some myself. So it’s very complicated.”
Haylie Duff, 41, resides in Austin, TX, with her two daughters, Ryan, 10, and Lulu, seven, and her fiancé, Matt Rosenberg.
Upcoming Projects
Despite the personal challenges, Duff remains focused on her career. She is set to embark on her first world tour in nearly 20 years, “The Lucky Me Tour,” beginning on June 21-22 at iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, FL. The tour will feature all-female opening acts, including English synth-pop artist La Roux, and Canadian singers Lauren Spencer Smith and Jade LeMac. Before hitting the road, Duff will conclude her sold-out Las Vegas mini-residency at the Voltaire inside The Venetian Resort on May 22-24.
Duff, who currently has 4.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify, first gained prominence for her role as Lizzie McGuire in the Disney Channel series of the same name (2001–2004) and its subsequent 2003 film adaptation.
As Duff balances her personal life and burgeoning career, her recent date night with Koma offers a glimpse into a relationship that continues to thrive amidst the complexities of family and fame. The upcoming tour promises to be a significant milestone, bringing her music to fans worldwide.
