A 40-year-old wrote figure skating history | Nachrichten.at

In the pair skating decision at the figure skating championships in Montreal there was the oldest world champion in history, 40-year-old Deanna Stellato-Dudek. The Canadian celebrated a celebrated home victory in a duet with compatriot Maxime Deschamps with top marks in the short program and free skate.

Stellato-Dudek was forced to temporarily end his career by a hip injury at the age of 17. After a 16-year break, her ambition took hold again. “I’m overjoyed. We felt the audience’s love and enthusiasm so much,” she said through tears.

The Austrian Maurizio Zandron missed the targeted free program of the top 24 at the World Figure Skating Championships in Montreal. The 31-year-old scored 69.59 points in the short program with a solid performance without any major mistakes, but that was only enough for 27th place out of 40 participants.
