A fifth man was indicted and imprisoned for aggravated theft Thursday, after the November attack on the Pointe-à-Pitre customs office where weapons had been stolen, we learned from the prosecution on Friday.
The individual, aged about thirty, “is suspected of having been directly involved” in the facts, told AFP Patrick Desjardins, the public prosecutor of Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe .
“Known to the services”, “imprisoned in the meantime for another case”, he was in detention when the investigation into the attack on the customs office – which continues – allowed to trace it back to him.
He was placed under a committal warrant in connection with this case and “therefore imprisoned for two reasons”, according to the prosecutor.
Four other people, including a minor, had already been indicted in mid-December in this case.
During the night of November 19 to 20, at the start of the protest movement that shook Guadeloupe, several weapons had been stolen from the customs office. It was about “a half-dozen automatic weapons, a submachine gun, and a shotgun”, had then indicated the commander of the research section of the gendarmerie, lieutenant colonel Joël Kerleau.
The criminals, taking advantage of the chaos caused on this night of urban violence, had in particular used a forklift to “enter by force” in this room, where “two chests” had been stolen, according to him. Only one weapon was found.
