A call for a strike after the draft social plan in the Home Health activity

The social plan had been in the works since the beginning of July. Air Liquide then announced a project to restructure its Home Health activity in France, which notably supplies medical gases, breathing devices and masks, to adapt it to market conditions, at the cost of eliminating 430 net positions.

Employees of Air Liquide’s Home Health activity are now being called by an inter-union union to strike throughout France on Monday to protest against this project. A gathering of strikers is planned at the Salouël site (Somme) near Amiens, which is due to close its doors next March.

Employees “can’t keep up”

The 430 job cuts announced result from a series of job cuts and job creations, which leads the inter-union to say that 1,038 employees, or nearly half of the workforce, risk being affected by this draft social plan still under negotiation.

Even if jobs are created in other regions, employees, for the most part, “cannot keep up”, declared to AFP Arnold Mbungu, representative of the CFDT Orkyn union section, one of the brands of the activity .

Reduction in reimbursements

According to Air Liquide, the home care model in France is threatened by several factors: the drop in reimbursement rates, an increase in costs, the adoption of new, more expensive technologies as well as the acceleration of the inflationary context.

The inter-union CFE-CGC, CGT, CFTC, CFDT and Seci-Unsa warns of “degraded working conditions” for retained employees and also fears a deterioration in patient monitoring. Management indicated in July that it wanted to support this restructuring with “a technological investment plan (…) in order to optimize processes and facilitate the daily work of the teams in supporting patients and relations with the health professionals “.

“AI can’t do that”

“We go to patients to install medical equipment, artificial intelligence cannot do this type of act,” retorts Arnold Mbungu. The inter-union association, which indicates that the end of negotiations is scheduled for November 28, calls for “realistic” working conditions for retained employees and “dignified” support measures for dismissed employees.
