a commissioner of the federal traffic police would have pocketed 30,000€ of the fines he collected in cash!

An investigation is underway against a commissioner of the Belgian federal road police, indicate our colleagues from HLN. Several sources would have confirmed to the Flemish daily that the commissioner would have collected fines in cash to be able to put the amount of the latter in his own pocket. He still currently works for the federal police.

Some colleagues had suspected him for some time. The case recently came to light as part of an internal police check.

The money pocketed by the police officer would come mainly from fines that truck drivers have to pay if, for example, their truck is overloaded. These fines sometimes amount to several thousand euros and some foreign drivers pay them in cash. The money is then stored in a safe at the checkpoint, which only two people have access to, including the commissioner. The man would have put no less than 30,000 euros in his own pocket!

The prosecutor’s office said an “investigation is ongoing”. “A lot of research has already been done,” adds the prosecution. In the meantime, the commissioner is still exercising, but in another circulation station. It is he himself who would have requested his transfer. The federal police must wait for the judicial information before being able to impose a sanction on the commissioner. But the fact that the latter is still at work would apparently not please his colleagues at all.
