The conflict in the Middle East has jeopardized international balances. The waters of the Red Sea, then, are increasingly choppy. Israel shot down a drone overnight, in what the army described as the first deployment of its naval Iron Dome missile defense system. Tel Aviv forces said a Corvette warship shot down the drone as it flew east, near the southern Israeli city of Eilat. The military released grainy aerial footage of the missile making contact with an aircraft. The drone launch was not claimed. The Israeli defense system, called C-Dome, is a naval version of the Iron Dome, used for the past decade to shoot down rockets launched from the Gaza Strip.

The Houthis, meanwhile, said on Sunday that they had launched “five attacks against Israeli, British and US ships” in the Red Sea in three days. According to what was stated by the spokesman of the Iranian-backed insurgents, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the group will continue to “prevent Israeli navigation in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean until the aggression in the Strip ceases of Gaza”. Saree highlighted that “these operations represent both a response to the oppression of the Palestinian people and to US and British aggression against our country.”

The US military also destroyed air defense systems and drones of the pro-Iranian Yemeni Houthi militias in the Red Sea area. This was announced by the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (Centcom) through a message published on X (Twitter). US forces claimed responsibility in particular for the destruction of two missiles ready for launch and a drone launched from Yemen towards the Red Sea.
