Al-Ahly objected to holding the match in Morocco, and issued 19 statements on the grounds of unequal opportunities, announcing the escalation of the matter to the International Football Association (FIFA) and the International Sports Court, but he played the match in the end to lose the championship.

Days after the final match, Ashraf Sobhi, the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, revealed that the ministry had not received any letter from the Egyptian Football Association to host the final match of the African Champions League.

Sobhi said – in televised statements – that the Egyptian Football Association sent the ministry a request to host some tournaments, including the final of the African Confederation, without the hosting of the African Champions League final among those files.

This helped Morocco to host the final of the African Champions League for the second consecutive season, after the competition was limited in the last stage with Senegal.

Walid Al-Attar, Executive Director of the Egyptian Football Association, admitted that the federation did not ask the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports to host the final match of the African Champions League 2022.

Al-Attar indicated that Al-Ittihad requested to host the final of the African Confederation at the request of the Pyramids Club, at a time when the Federation did not receive any request from Al-Ahly to host the final.

The Executive Director of the Egyptian Football Association explained that the conditions of the tournament were sent to all clubs from the beginning, including holding the final from one match, but Al-Ahly did not ask to host the match.

Al-Attar concluded his statements by emphasizing that the same procedures for the current season were followed last season, but the difference is that one of the parties to the final of the current version was Moroccan, in addition to the fact that the time for the announcement of the final stadium was long overdue.

For his part, Amer Al-Amayra, sports regulations expert, responded to Walid Al-Attar’s statements by emphasizing that there is no clause stipulating the necessity of the club’s request to organize the final match.

Al-Amayreh wrote through his official account on the social networking site “Twitter”: “I hope the Executive Director of the Egyptian Federation, Professor Walid Al-Attar, will publish the article that claims to be in the regulations of the African Champions League and Confederation Cup, which obliges clubs to request the organization of the final match.”

And he concluded: “The Senegalese Football Association submitted the final hosting request, and it does not have any team in the tournament.”
