In order to allow audiences and artists to stay in touch despite the health crisis, the Ministry of Culture initiated, in 2020, the Cultural Summer operation. The Grand Est Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC) Grand Est and the Scènes et Territoires association coordinated in this context, during the summer of 2022, the second edition of the “Young ESTivants” scheme.
In the summer of 2022, 400 artists invested, through 115 residences, nearly 110 places, located in rural areas, and for the most part non-cultural, in the Grand Est region.
Young summer visitors: a film by Bastien Simon
A road trip to improbable encounters and joyful or even painful stories, the film offers a particular, poetic, dreamy, quirky or absurd look, which links the artists to the inhabitants of rural areas. Mutual aid, openness to possibilities, sharing, the film questions the place of the artist in our current society.
This film presents the artists of 5 residencies among the 115 organized throughout the summer of 2022, to whom “Jeunes ESTivants” has given time to create, research and meet the public…:
To report on it, Bastien Simon, author and director, traveled aboard his yellow vehicle “La Poste” for 50 days, as part of a traveling residence, the 10 departments of the Grand Est, i.e. 5,000 km…, meeting artists in residence, associations, local authorities… who welcomed them and the public…
- the musician Jean-David Merhi, known as “Wesh”, at the Brienne-le-Château music school in Aube;
- the actresses, authors and directors, Agathe Charnet and Lillah Vial, in the Forest of Blainville (Meurthe-et-Moselle);
- the photographer Nicolas Serve, at the EPHAD in Joinville (Haute-Marne);
- the PAC theater company, at the Citadelle and the Wilson Center in Montmédy (Meuse);
- the Theater of Operations company at MARPA, a residence for the elderly, in Vanault-les-Dames (Marne).
