A grandmother of 12 breaks the world record for the longest plank

Canada – A 58-year-old Canadian grandmother was able to set a Guinness World Record for the longest time in the plank exercise for women.

Donna Jane Wilde, a mother of five and grandmother of 12 from Alberta, Canada, has added a world record to her resume.

The Canadian, who was once a high school vice principal before her retirement, maintained the “plank” position for a little more than 4 hours and 30 minutes (04:30:11), according to the Guinness Book of World Records, which is more than 10 minutes behind the previous record.

To obtain the world record, Wilde had to keep her arms and toes on the ground at all times while keeping the rest of her body upright and off the ground.

Wilde told Guinness World Records that she usually exercises planks for up to three hours every day, but in fact she increased her exercise regime before the record day to six hours, divided into two periods of three hours each.

The grandmother mentioned that she started practicing the plank exercise 12 years ago when she broke her wrist and was unable to run or lift weights while wearing a splint, so she resorted to the plank exercise as an alternative.

Randy Wild, the athlete’s grandmother’s husband, revealed that his wife of 40 years has been suffering from chronic pain in her hands and arms, but that did not prevent her from receiving the award.

“The chronic pain and numbness that she deals with every day helped her to be able to overcome the pain,” he told Guinness World Records.

It is noteworthy that the current world record for the plank exercise for men is just over 9 hours and 38 minutes, and was achieved in 2023 by a man from the Czech Republic.
