OnePlus has officially lifted the veil on its new high-end smartphone: the OnePlus 10T. A phone that’s all about power and speed. Is it the ultimate high-end mobile at the end of 2022? Our first elements of response.
Despite the many information and rumors distilled in recent weeks, the OnePlus 10T tried to keep a part of mystery. The Chinese brand has just put an end to the suspense by unveiling its new high-end smartphone that could be summed up in two words: performance and speed.
Since the OnePlus 3T, the manufacturer offers (almost) every year a second iteration of its high-end smartphone. OnePlus, however, skipped the OnePlus 9T last year. In 2022, the manufacturer is reviving this tradition thanks to the OnePlus 10T, which is positioned alongside the OnePlus 10 Propresented at the beginning of the year.
The new Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 at the controls
The OnePlus 10T pushes these two characteristics to their climax thanks to a muscular technical sheet. Thus, we find the latest high-end SoC from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen1, clocked up to 3.2 GHz. The chip is advertised as 30% more efficient for CPU and GPU than the Snapdragon 8 Gen1. Everything is associated with an impressive amount of RAM, 16 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage in UFS 3.1. Enough to run 35 applications in the background and be able to come back to them in the blink of an eye, according to the brand.
But OnePlus wanted to go further by equipping its OnePlus 10T with a new cooling system. For this, the smartphone uses larger vapor chambers and graphene which promises better heat dissipation than the OnePlus 10 Pro. What to limit the throttling when the device is heavily loaded. This debauchery of performance aims to flirt with mobile gamers. To achieve this, OnePlus has also optimized the software part, in particular with its “HyperBoost Gaming” game engine which aims to offer the best possible experience by making games more fluid and responsive. The OnePlus 10T also benefits from a system of 14 360-degree antennas to ensure the best possible network performance, even when the phone is held horizontally to play.
Good surprise also for fans of the brand, they will find the OxygenOS 12.1 overlay, and not Oppo’s ColorOS as some might have feared. Few details for the moment on the interface except that it will offer a lot of optimizations for the performance of the device and a good level of customization to put it to your taste.
Very (very) fast charging
The battery of the OnePlus 10T is 4800 mAh, which is 200 mAh less than that of the OnePlus 10 Pro. But unlike its big brother, which is compatible with 80W fast charging, the OnePlus 10T offers 150W fast charging, with a 160W SUPERVOOC charger in the box. How quickly can the phone be charged? Thanks for asking. The manufacturer announces a full charge from 1 to 100% in just 19 minutes.
To avoid overheating and not prematurely use up its battery capacity, the OnePlus 10T has implemented software and hardware optimizations, ensuring that the battery will be able to retain at least 80% of its capacity after 1600 recharge cycles, i.e. about four years if you charge it every day. To achieve this, OnePlus uses the same technology as Oppo for its Find X5 Pro. Thus, the device can reduce its charging speed in the last 10 percentage points to avoid overheating and preserve the battery. Inevitable concessions?
On paper, the OnePlus 10T looks like a very powerful smartphone that should please users looking for speed and performance. On these points, it could well surpass the OnePlus 10 Pro released at the start of the year. But the latter should retain an important advantage: the quality of its photo module. Indeed, the OnePlus 10T seems less well off on this point.
If we cannot yet judge the quality of shots that the OnePlus 10T can take, we note a first thing: the absence of the logo (and therefore of the expertise) of Hasselblad on the photo part. OnePlus explained that this choice was made above all to reduce costs. This is also reflected at the hardware level with the absence of a telephoto sensor, here replaced by a modest two-megapixel macro sensor.
On the design side, the OnePlus 10T does not revolutionize the formula by making a few minor changes. The finest observers will however have noticed the absence of the famous “Alert slider” button which is used to quickly switch from one sound mode to another. Again, OnePlus has advanced a lack of space to integrate other components deemed more important. However, this does not sign the end of the famous button which could be reserved for the “Pro” versions.
The OnePlus 10T is available in two colors (black and green) and two configurations:
