A Love Triangle in Yanji: A Tale of Silent Passion Near the North Korean Border

A love triangle in the style of an American indie film from the 90s in a town near the North Korean border, by Anthony Chen.

On the very harsh borders of China, where proximity to North Korea obviously chills any personal expression, three young and handsome Chinese people will meet by chance and love each other in silence. A winter in Yanji (that’s saying a lot, let’s say a handful of days) brings together Haofeng, a taciturn who works in finance in Shanghai, landed there for a wedding; Nana, tourist guide from whom we belatedly learn a painful secret; and his friend Xiao, cook. From motorcycle trips to drunken nights in clubs, with a little regulatory book theft in the style of an American indie film from the nineties, the film aligns a number of epiphanies to which the spectators do not really have access, the cool adventures of the characters being as if glazed by their fashionable grain and generalized aphasia.

Unknown to Yanji d’Anthony Chen, avec Zhou Dongyu, Liu Haoran, Chuxiao Qu… 1h40.
