A man died this Sunday on the beach of Los Foxos, in the Asturian municipality of Coaa, after being swept away by a wave and falling into the sea when he tried to rescue a dog that had previously fallen into the water, reported the Emergency Service of the Principality (SEPA).

The 112 Asturias Emergency Coordination Center received a call at 10:37 am in which the man asked for help to rescue the animal, which was being carried away by the sea and was already about five meters from the shore.

While the teams were heading to the scene of the incident, a new call was received in which another interlocutor alerted that the person who was calling the dog had fallen into the water.

The head of the local Civil Protection group tried to reach the place aboard an inflatable boat, but the bad state of the sea prevented him from approaching, and the swell dragged the body towards Navia’s ra, where the firefighters managed to rescue him in an area of rocks, where, despite resuscitation attempts that were made, only the death could be confirmed.
