A man stabs six people to death in Sydney and is killed by the Police

SYDNEY (EFE).- At least six people were stabbed to death this Saturday in a Sydney shopping center in an attack in which eight more people were injured and whose alleged perpetrator was shot dead by the Australian Police.

According to the police report, the assailant entered the popular shopping center Westfield Bondi Junction at 3:10 p.m. local time (5:10 GMT), he left shortly after and returned about ten minutes later, when he attacked several people with a knife.

The injuries caused the immediate death of four women and a man, while another stabbed woman died hours later in hospital and eight other people are admitted to hospitals in the city, including a nine-month-old baby who has undergone emergency surgery. .

After receiving the alert call, a Police inspector went to the scene, where she confronted the aggressor, who turned towards her with a knife in his hand, so the agent “fired a firearm” at him.

The agent performed resuscitation maneuvers on the suspect while waiting for medical personnel, who were unable to revive him.

Hundreds of people were evacuated from the shopping center after the attack, which caused a great commotion throughout the country.

Karen Webb, commissioner of the New South Wales Police, indicated in a press conference that investigators have no clues that the murderer acted motivated by “an idea” so “it is not a terrorist incident.”

“The investigation – he added – will be underway for many days, but there are elements that at this moment do not indicate that,” he added regarding the possibility that it was a terrorist act.

Webb explained that the attacker is a man in his 40s, but declined to give more details because his identification has not yet been completed.
“We believe that this person acted alone and there are no threats against the community at this time,” Webb added, noting that there is nothing to suggest that the killer had planned to act against a specific person.

The shopping center will remain closed to the public this Sunday while the Police continue their investigations.
