A Mapuche woman will remain imprisoned for pending cases in Villa Mascardi

Federal judge Hugo Greca sentenced Yéssica Fernanda Bonnefoi as author of minor injuries intentional acts, along with resistance to authority, and imposed 6 months suspended prison. This was explained yesterday by Eduardo Soares, from the Lawyers’ Guild, who assisted the woman in the trial that took place this week in Bariloche.

Bonnefoi was a member of the Lafken Winkul Mapu Mapuche community, which usurped from November 2017 until October 4 of last year several lots that the National Parks Administration has in Villa Mascardi and private lands. They were evicted by order of the then federal judge María Silvina Domínguez, who prosecuted several members of the community.

Bonnefoi was one of those prosecuted. As had been declared in default for not appearing before the Court, she was excluded from the conciliation agreement that the national government and the Mapuches agreed upon at a dialogue table. The agreement was endorsed by Greca, but is not firm because it was challenged by the prosecution.

The woman was arrested on Last August 10 by personnel from the Río Negro Police after he evaded a traffic stop in Bariloche. She was riding a motorcycle with a man, who was also detained.

When she was arrested, the arrest warrant from the federal court of Bariloche was issued for the causes of the usurpations and the file in which she was accused of injuring an agent of the Airport Security Police on November 23, 2017 in an eviction of a lot. of Parks in Villa Mascardi.

She was tried and Greca sentenced her to 6 months in suspended prison as the prosecution had requested. The complaint had requested 2 years of effective prison and the defense had requested acquittal.
