An exceptional discovery which is delighted by the SCO, the Caledonian society of ornithology. Eastern Rolle had been observed for almost three weeks when it was captured in the lens of Jean-Jacques Folder, a technician from the environmental association Dayu Biik. This is proof of the very first observation of this specimen on the territory.

This insectivore is typically found in Southeast Asia, Papua New Guinea, and the Australian East Coast.

It is a beautiful bird, with blue plumage. A young individual that still has a black beak, adults have an orange beak. The interest is to see if there are other individuals in the region.

The association is also counting on the sharp eye of the inhabitants of Hienghène to provide them with new information. It is thanks to some of them that the bird was spotted. “The observation was made by the canteen team of the provincial boarding school of Hienghène and who had the reflex to point out this bird that they were not used to seeing” says David Ugolini.
