A pair worn by Michael Jordan sold… for $2.2 million!

Michael Jordan may have been retired for 20 years, but is still going strong. At auction, a pair of Air Jordan XIII worn during the 1998 Finals by His Airness sold for 2.2 million dollars! And no it’s not a joke.

It’s been a long time since Michael Jordan hung up his shoes in the NBA. However, these sneakers do not sleep at home, and are sometimes sold at auction. And as in terms of Greatness and legend, few athletes come close to his ankle, the smallest pair sold goes to an exorbitant price, even more if it has been worn by His Airness himself. This is the case of a pair of Air Jordan XIII worn by MJ during Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals against the Jazz, a game where he (again) walked on Salt Lake City with 37 points. These shoes were sold for 2.2 million dollars by a collector. This pair of Jordan XIII became the most expensive in history beating the old record of 1.47 million for Nike Air Ships.

The market for shoes worn by NBA stars is becoming increasingly sophisticated. All the biggest stars have their shoes in their name. Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Luka Doncic, Trae Young, Kobe Bryant and dozens of others, no one escapes the exception. One of the best known is the Reebok Question of “The Answer” Allen Iverson, still on sale today with almost twenty models available. The Jordans remain the most famous thanks to their creator. Michael Jordan continues to establish himself as the athlete who sells the most memorabilia and collectibles and at the highest price. For example, a jersey he wore for the 1998 Finals sold for $10.1 million last year.

“Today’s record result proves once again that demand for Michael Jordan sports memorabilia continues to exceed all expectations.” – Brahm Wachter, Director of Streetwear and Modern Collectibles at Sotheby’s.
