LOS ANGELES: Armored SWAT vehicles and police cars surrounded a white cargo van Sunday morning in a parking lot near the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance.
The vehicle matches the descriptions of a vehicle wanted in connection with a shooting that left 10 people dead and 10 injured in the Monterey Park community in the San Gabriel Valley and another incident in the nearby Alhambra. Authorities did not immediately confirm whether the van is the same one that witnesses say left the scene in Alhambra.
The van was blocked front and rear between two armored vehicles in the mall parking lot. The vehicle’s windshield was smashed.
The shooting occurred in the city of Monterey Park, near Los Angeles. The alleged perpetrator of the massacre is still on the run.
Witnesses said a white cargo van was seen leaving the scene of the crime on Saturday night in Alhambra. Authorities arrived at the scene, a dance hall, minutes after responding to a deadly shooting at a Monterey Park dance studio.
During a press conference this Sunday at 12:30 pm Los Angeles Sheriff Robert Luna said that “people have asked: ‘Is that the suspect?’ We don’t know. As we said today, we had a vehicle that was described as a white van, you would say, a van of interest, and there is a van that looks like what was described to us in the city of Torrance.”
“We believe there is a person inside that vehicle. We don’t know his condition, but we’re going to handle that in the safest way possible,” Luna added.
