Traffic is exceptionally disrupted on the roads of France on Saturday August 12, a day classified red in the direction of departures by Bison smart, with 1,162 kilometers of traffic jams at the peak of midday. This accumulation exceeds that of 1,080 kilometers recorded during the crossover of July 29, but remains far from the absolute record of 1,340 kilometers which had been reached on May 29, 2019 during the Ascension bridge.
At the start of the 15 August bridge, also marked by a heatwave in the Rhône valley, the A7 between Lyon and Marseille, the A10 between Paris and Bordeaux and the A9 between Orange and Le Perthus were the most congested, with some 150 kilometers of accumulated traffic jams each, according to Bison smart. Heading south on the A7, the travel time between Lyon and Orange was 4 h 40, instead of 1 h 35 in normal times, and on the A9 it was necessary to wait 4 h 30 to connect Orange and Narbonne, instead of 1:40 a.m., according to Bison Futé.
The A11 between Paris and Nantes and the A13 between Paris and Caen were not spared, with tens of kilometers of slowdowns, traffic jams and episodes of accordion traffic observed.
In anticipation of traffic jams, Bison smart notably recommended that motorists leave Ile-de-France before 7 a.m. and avoid the A7 between Lyon and Orange from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
On Friday, the traffic jams had already reached more than 679 kilometers at the height of the day, yet classified yellow in the direction of departures. Sunday will be classified as yellow in both directions in the South-East, with further difficulties expected in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region on the A6, A7 motorways, and on the Mediterranean arc on the A8, A9 and A61.
