A shoplifting ended with an accident in Laval

A 34-year-old man suspected of shoplifting suffered serious injuries in causing an accident following a police chase on Monday afternoon in Laval.

According to information provided by the Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI), it all started when the suspect allegedly robbed a business on Henri-Bourassa Boulevard in the late afternoon, at 4:42 p.m., before fleeing. .

Called to the scene, officers were able to identify a suspicious vehicle with the help of a security guard.

However, when the police wanted to intercept the suspect, the latter fled, leading the officers to initiate a pursuit.

After some time, the officers decided to end the pursuit and opted to follow the suspect from a distance. Despite everything, the latter caused an accident in the area of ​​boulevard des Laurentides and rue de Grenoble.

The man was seriously injured, but his condition was deemed stable by evening.

Given the police chase, the BEI invoked its mandate to verify whether the Laval police officers had acted correctly. Five BEI investigators were dispatched to shed light on the circumstances of the incident, with the support of the Sûreté du Québec.
