A statement from Roger Waters on the controversy over his Berlin concert | Mark Fenwick Management

Frankfurt (ots) “My recent appearance in Berlin has provoked malicious attacks from those who want to slander and silence me because they disagree with my political views and moral principles.

The elements of my performance that were questioned are clearly a statement against fascism, injustice and bigotry in all their forms. Attempting to portray these elements as something else is disingenuous and politically motivated. Portraying a deranged fascist demagogue has been a feature of my shows since Pink Floyd’s The Wall in 1980.

I’ve spent my entire life speaking out against authoritarianism and oppression wherever I see it. During my post-war childhood, the name Anne Frank was often mentioned in our home, becoming a constant reminder of what happens when fascism runs rampant. My parents fought against the Nazis in World War II, with my father paying the ultimate price.

Regardless of the consequences of the attacks on me, I will continue to condemn the wrongs and those who commit them.”
