A woman died after a head-on collision between a bus and a van

A women 63 years old died this Saturday after a shock front between a collective and a truck. It happened on National Route 40, 35 kilometers from Junín de los Andes.

In the long-distance bus, only the driver and his companion were on board, who were traveling to San Martín de los Andes. While the truck was coming from the city of Ushuaia (Tierra del Fuego) to the province of Mendoza.

Inspector Commissioner Santos Morales, in charge of the Zapala Security Directorate, confirmed the tragic event. “Unfortunately, a person died who was referred to San Martin de los Andes, as a result of an accident that occurred on route 40, Calcatre height,” he said in dialogue with LM Neuquen.

In a tragic head-on collision, a long-distance bus from the Flecha Bus company was involved, traveling from north to south, bound for the city of San Martín de los Andes; and a Jeep truck traveling in the opposite direction.

According to Morales, the fatal victim “was a 63-year-old woman” who was traveling in the truck. She was taken to the hospital, still alive, but with very serious injuries. They would later confirm her death.

“There were three other people referred, between 59 and 70 years old, with injuries of different considerations, but for now, without risk to life,” said the inspector commissioner.

The shock was of such magnitude that the occupants of the truck were trapped between the irons of the vehicle. For this reason, they requested the urgent intervention of volunteer firefighters from Junín de los Andes and Zapala, who were the first to help the injured tourists.

The bus driver also stated that he had some pain, for which he was also transferred to the San Martín de los Andes hospital, but he was in good health, although a significant shock was evident.

In addition to the volunteer firefighters from Junín de los Andes and Zapala, police personnel from Las Coloradas and health agents from the same town and from Junín de los Andes worked at the scene.

Later, after 8 pm, the hospital reported that one of the people who had arrived injured as a result of the violent head-on collision between a bus and a truck had died. She was a 63-year-old woman.
