A11y Bytes Returns to Sydney for Global Accessibility Awareness Day

A11y Bytes Sydney returns for its fourteenth year on Thursday, 21 May 2026, marking Global Accessibility Awareness Day with a community-focused evening hosted by Canva at their Surry Hills office.

The event, part of the largest community-run accessibility gathering in Australia, centers on how digital inclusion affects daily life rather than just technical compliance or regulations. A11y Bytes events have previously drawn up to 500 attendees across online sessions and physical meetups in Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, and Sydney, with the initiative expanding into parts of New Zealand.

Canva Hosts Evening of Talks on Digital Inclusion

This year’s Sydney gathering takes place at the Canva office located at 110 Kippax St, Surry Hills, NSW 2010. Organizers note that attendees do not need to be accessibility specialists to participate, as the format is designed for anyone interested in exploring how people access information and interact with modern technology.

The program features four presentations addressing different facets of digital design and content creation. Michelle Lynn Macdonald opens the speaker lineup with “THE ERRORS TOUR : 10 swift resolutions for accessibility.” Following her, a speaker known as Shakas addresses “The Hidden Cost of Trying to Keep Up With Content.”

The schedule continues with Niharika Pramod Pujari presenting “Scaling Accessibility: Treating Accessibility as Frontend Architecture.” Closing the speaker sessions, Kathryn Gough explores future industry directions in “Keeping up: where accessibility practice goes next.”
