AaB hero after ugly victory: Would have said yes thank you this summer

AaB teetered on the brink of defeat for a long time, but thanks to Kasper Jørgensen, North Jutland ran with everything in Saturday’s away game against Hillerød.

The right-back scored his third goal of the season when, in the final phase, he sent a long shot into one corner of the goal and secured the team both a 2-1 victory and a status as regular season winners in the 1st division.

– The ball had a good bounce in front of me, so I tried my luck. It went very well, laughs Kasper Jørgensen about the goal, which was also scored with a cold left leg.

Thus it probably ended happily for AaB in a match where they were in trouble along the way.

– We had a bad start to the match, but as we have shown many times in the season, we are good at working our way back, although it probably never went well against Hillerød, says the match winner.

The in-form home team had the ball 60 percent of the time, and AaB ran around in vain for a long time in the home team’s combinations.

– They played a little too easily around us because we stayed in the team too long. There were a lot of spaces that Hillerød could use, but we closed them down better in the second half. At the same time, we got better at stepping on the ball a bit at times, points out AaB’s first goalscorer, Mathias Jørgensen.

When the promotion play begins at Easter, AaB starts 15 points ahead of the nearest rival for promotion, and it is a bit of a dream scenario.

– If we had been offered that deal this summer, we would have agreed immediately. The points harvest is fantastic, but we also know that the game can be improved, says Kasper Jørgensen.

– We work every day to get better on the training pitch, and I also think that we train well, but it’s as if we don’t quite get it out in the games yet, says the AaB defender.

You also don’t get Kasper Jørgensen to regard promotion as at home until, statistically speaking, it is completely and utterly at home.

– If we start to relax things, then things can still go wrong. So we have to attack every game like a final from here.

Top scorer Mathias Jørgensen is completely cynical in his approach to the rest of the spring.

– Three points are three points, and it doesn’t matter if it’s deserved. Now we just need to rest our heads and bodies, and then we will probably be even more ready when the first game in the playoffs kicks off, warns the attacker, who is now up to five goals in his first four AaB games.

– I am happy with my start and of course want to chase even more goals in the play-offs, states Mathias Jørgensen.
