The deputy head of the Russian Security Council confirmed that Ukraine’s request to speed up its accession to NATO represents a request to “accelerate the start of World War III,” according to Al Sharq TV.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg denounced Russia’s annexation of four Ukrainian regions, describing the move as “illegal and illegitimate.”
He said in a press conference today, Friday, that “this is the largest attempt to annex European lands by force since the Second World War.”
He added that “NATO allies have not and will not recognize any of these lands as part of Russia,” calling on all countries to reject the annexation process.
The top NATO official said the move “represents the most serious escalation since the beginning of the war,” and pledged more support to Ukraine.
