Accident in Montérégie: “My brother, he was such a good person”

On October 9, the Sûreté du Québec was called to go to Saint-Robert, in Montérégie. Three young people aged 18 and 19 lost their lives following a tragic road trip. A 16-year-old girl is injured.

That day, Marc-Antoine Langelier (19), Édouard Chevalier (18) and Zachary Comtois (18) passed away, a date that will forever remain in the memory of loved ones.

“My brother, he was such a good person,” says Zachary’s sister, Élodie Pagé, heartbroken during her appearance on the show Current cases. “He was there for everyone, that was the case until the end,” she adds.

Zachary Comtois was one of the passengers in Marc-Antoine Langelier’s car. Although speed appears to be involved in the crash, the victim’s sister claims he didn’t like speed and “was very responsible”.

“He had just gotten his driver’s license. It was not someone who wanted to speed, ”she says, tears in her eyes.

This young boy dreamed of being a firefighter, “he wanted to save lives”, explains Élodie Pagé. “I don’t blame anyone. Things happen as they are.”

Five years ago, during Thanksgiving weekend, three people, including two minors, died on Route 117 in La Conception.

The mother of one of the victims, Mélanie Yelle, also testified on the show Current cases events that are similar to this night of Sunday, October 9, 2022.

“It struck me the accident, I said: oh no, not yet. Of course, Jolianne’s accident was speeding and drinking and driving with people who liked drag. […] It’s almost the same case, it’s three young people who died, ”says the mother of Jolianne Larivière.

Mrs. Yelle, upon her death, wanted to honor the memory of her daughter. “I embarked on a mission to raise awareness among young people. I could not accept to say that she was dead”, indicates the woman, still upset from this day of October 9, 2017.

In collaboration with a director, the mother of the family reconstructed the events in a short film, in order to make certain young people aware of the danger of speed.
