Acer is a rather special brand on the market. It’s not that his products aren’t good, far from it, but his mastery of communication around his products is somewhat dilettante. Also, its Aspire range was somewhat the one that we saw only possessed by moms and dads who went to Darty to get their first computers. But with the ecological movement and the Vero range, Acer has finally found the little more interesting that sets it apart, and which we have already seen on the 14-inch model from 2022. With this 15-inch Aspire Vero, we find a technical sheet worthy of its time, and still the philosophy that has seduced us.

Acer Aspire Vero 15 (2023) Design
Once again, we are faced with a design that is a bit more sober than the usual Acer devices. And for good reason: here, we take advantage of a chassis made up of 30% plastic collected in the ocean. We will add keyboard keys made of 50% of the same material, and a touchpad entirely designed in this way. Recycling efforts extend to the ease of opening and repairing your own PC, as well as the possibility of recycling the components of the PC itself.

That’s why the Acer Aspire Vero 15 has this somewhat rectangular design. This is as much about making it easier to produce as it is about strengthening the chassis. Because yes, the device is a little more flexible than high-end computers. But to be honest, it’s also not flexible than most devices in its class, which also use plastic without necessarily paying attention to the source of it.

Otherwise, the Aspire Vero 15 is all in all very agreed. Its weight of 1.8 kilograms is in what we imagine considering this diagonal, which does not make it the lightest or the heaviest in its category. It is its speckled design that sets it apart, in addition to this greener color than the 14-inch model.
Keyboard and touchpad
The keyboard isn’t very transcendent, but isn’t bad. Its switches are a little softer than the 14-inch model, but are still stiff enough to be comfortable. As a bonus to the typical keyboard in the letters E and R have their own little style, we are entitled to a small numeric keypad on the side. This one is very narrow, but easy to use.

The touchpad is quite wide and slides superbly well. It integrates in the top left the fingerprint reader serving as a biometric lock for the device thanks to Windows Hello.

On the left, surprisingly, we find a traditional 20v power port. We also have two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports, an HDMI port and a USB A 3.2 Gen 1 port. On the right we have a single USB A 3.2 Gen 1 and a combo jack.

The presence of this 20V power port tends to make us think that Acer is reusing an old motherboard design here. But we will not necessarily blame him, since the connectivity is complete despite everything. On this diagonal, an SD card reader is always appreciated, but its absence on such a mainstream laptop PC is not a problem.
Webcam et audio
Acer is promoting a “QHD” webcam for its Aspire Vero 15, but the reality is that it doesn’t really impact quality. We stay in the shackles of most other computers, with all the same a little more worked stake. Above all, the speakers do not stand out and lack volume as much as definition. The bass is definitely absent.

Our test model is equipped with an IPS LCD panel supporting a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels for a refresh rate of 60 Hz. The screen is matte and anti-reflective.
Under our probe and with the DisplayCal software, we find a coverage of 100.6% of the sRGB space for 71.3% of the DCI-P3 space. The maximum brightness is measured at 420 cd / m², which is quite good for an anti-reflective screen: the computer will remain readable even in direct sunlight. The contrast is excellent at 1610:1.
But of course, we are on a product that is not the most high-end. Also, as a bonus of not supporting the DCI-P3 space, the average delta E00 measured on the sRGB space is far from perfect at 3.64. It’s not totally bad, but far from being optimized for graphics work. Too bad, because the color temperature of 6652K is very close to the NTSC standard sought at 6500K.
All in all, here we have a screen that does the trick. It’s not the best panel in the world, but considering the target consumers, it will do its job perfectly. That being said, on a diagonal of 15.6 inches like this, Acer could have made the effort to integrate a QHD definition or support for the DCI-P3 space which is becoming ever more important.

It’s been a long time since Acer updated its software line. Vero gets its own app, which focuses on longevity of the computer and optimizing performance in the simplest way possible. This one is very pleasant to use and a good idea from Acer.
But alas, we also find the other inclinations of the manufacturer. However, Vero does not replace the very bad Care Center which manages computer updates, and the manufacturer still has this annoying tendency to integrate a lot of adware into its experience. It will be necessary to do a major cleaning as soon as it is acquired.

Our test version of the Acer Aspire Vero 15 is equipped with an Intel Core i7-1355U, a 10-core SoC – 2 performance and 8 efficient – that can turbo up to 5 GHz. It is paired with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM. We also have 512 GB of PCIe 3.0 storage.
Benchmarks and heating
Computer performance is not particularly impressive. With scores of 7543 points in multi-core and 1854 points in single-core under Cinebench R23, we can see that it is especially on single-threaded tasks that the 2023 Vero 15 offers a real improvement compared to the 2022 model. of 5596 points on PCMark 10 also underlines it: the evolution is minimal. Above all, we are still faced with PCIe 3.0 storage, one of the disappointments already noted on the 2022 model. Admittedly, that’s enough for ordinary mortals, but it’s still economy at the end of the day. of candles.
Obviously, for a PC dedicated mainly to office automation, this is more than enough to have an extremely fluid computer, but we would have liked to see cooling to support Intel’s 13th generation a little more. But the Vero 15 undoubtedly favors silence, even if it means reaching a peak of 53°C at the bottom of the device.
