Acropolis Rally 2024: Significantly different route 2024-05-03 03:17:44

Thus, the crews that will take part in the “Rally of the Gods” will be faced with a new challenge, as the significantly modified layout of the race route also implies a new approach to the management of forces, materials and tires. The race schedule includes special routes synonymous with its tough character, such as Tarzan, Regini, Agioi Theodoroi and others, while special routes that were “embraced” by the spectators have returned. Some in the past, such as Oinochori in Fokida, part of which in the early 2000s was used as Shakedown, and others until recently, such as Thebes. Among the changes at the level of special routes is the addition of Ano Pauliani, which will start from Koumaritsi and end at the starting point of the well-known Pauliani, as well as Dafni, which is a smaller version of the Pyrgos special route of previous years.

The most important change in this year’s timetable has to do with the order in which the competitors will be in the regions of Central Greece, Peloponnese and Attica, which will successively host the Acropolis Rally. In particular, for the first time in its history as a round of the WRC, the race will start from its home, Lamia. The ceremonial start (Thursday, September 5) will take place in front of the Panhellenic Exhibition of Lamia, where the Service Park and the Race Headquarters will be located, with the participants staying overnight in the area, as the first leg will develop between Phocis and Evrytania. With the length of the day’s three repeated special routes reaching 133.96 kilometers, it is certain that no one will choose to approach the race “defensively”, with all that this implies for its development.

The Saturday leg is expected to be just as demanding. The first racing sounds will be heard on the Regini special route, which is similar to last year’s Elatea in the opposite direction, while along the way the crews will continue with the Thebes special route. Next station the southernmost end of the route, for Agioi Theodorou and Loutraki, which are variations of the well-known routes of the area. The day will close with a new super special route (to be announced in due course) with free entry, which is expected to attract a large number of spectators.

The total 303.23 racing kilometers of the race will be completed on the last day, Sunday, with the Oinochori and Eleftherochori special routes, with the latter being the Power Stage of the Acropolis Rally for 2024.
