Action Roguelike Tenjutsu Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and PC in 2027

Publisher Devolver Digital and developer Deepnight Games announced that the martial arts action roguelike Tenjutsu will launch in 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, following its gameplay trailer reveal during the October 29 Nintendo Direct.

Fantasy & Market Impact

  • Platform exclusivity shifts toward hardware as the Nintendo Switch 2 window locks in for 2027.
  • Roguelike genre benchmarks face fresh competition from designer Sébastien Bénard, previously behind Dead Cells.

The Neon Underworld of Kuroboro

Players step into the shoes of Ten, a former yakuza recently released from prison who attempts to build a quiet life in the neon-lit city of Kuroboro. The local underworld bosses, however, view her return as a direct threat to their hegemony. To survive their sustained purges, Ten must combine her foundational martial arts training with an evolving arsenal of melee, ranged, and specialized weaponry.

The combat architecture is built around fast-paced, multi-target encounters. Success demands acute spatial awareness and precise loadout customization. Devolver Digital spokesperson framed the title’s potential bluntly during the reveal event, stating, This is the real deal.

Strategic Territory Control and Roguelike Progression

Progression through Tenjutsu relies on a shifting tactical meta. Players choose which criminal syndicates to target first, but defeating one faction forces the survivors to adapt, making the final remaining organization the most lethal threat on the board.

Runs are heavily shaped by structural manipulation. Players use “jokers” to alter city rules, place vending machines, restock shops, and recover health. Meanwhile, permanent progression is tied to “tattooed teeth” stripped from fallen enemies across successive runs, unlocking expanded city layouts, altered rules, and high-tier gear.

Quiet Moments Between the Violence

Between high-intensity incursions into Kuroboro’s criminal networks, the gameplay loop centers on Ten’s apartment and the ramen shop operated by Hoken downstairs. These safe-zone interactions serve as narrative hubs where encounters with local residents and rivals gradually untangle the mysteries of the city.

Originally unveiled during the 2024 Devolver Direct showcase, Tenjutsu continues its development cycle toward its confirmed 2027 release window on Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
