The Center for Health Protection of the Department of Health said today (20th) that there was an outbreak of acute gastroenteritis in Lam Lee Wan Bing Kindergarten/Child Care Center of Yan Chai Hospital in Yuen Long District. 24 students and a staff member became unwell. The center is currently following up and investigating. Remind members of the public and residents to pay attention to personal and environmental hygiene.

The center pointed out that the above-mentioned cases involved 25 patients, aged between 2 and 31, including 12 boys, 12 girls and a staff member. They developed abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea and fever successively since the 10th of this month. Among them, 18 have sought medical treatment and two have to be admitted to hospital. All patients are in stable condition.

Staff from the Center for Health Protection have visited the center and advised the center staff on the necessary preventive measures, including proper and thorough disinfection and cleaning, proper disposal of vomitus, as well as personal and environmental hygiene, and conducted medical surveillance on the center.
