COTONOU, March 13 (Xinhua) — More than a public health problem, epidemics and pandemics aggravate the precarious situation of populations already bogged down under the weight of major endemics and non-communicable diseases, estimated Wednesday evening in Cotonou several African scientists.

“The world is increasingly faced with serious problems of health crises which not only affect the well-being of populations, but also negatively impact the economy of each country, and thus hinder their development”, underlined Raoul Saizonou, an official from the World Health Organization, at the opening of the second national infectious diseases days in Benin.

For his part, the president of the Beninese Society of Pathology and Tropical Infection, Angelo Attinssounon, believes that infectious diseases negatively impact daily life every day and give difficulty to the countries concerned.

“Infections with many names remain the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in Africa,” he said.

Ange Dossou, representative of the Beninese Minister of Health, noted that one of the main objectives his ministerial department is working on is “the considerable reduction of the impact of major endemics (…) on the development of Benin “.

The second national infectious disease days of Benin, which began Wednesday evening in Cotonou, are intended for sharing experiences between players in the sector for better quality and safety of infectious disease care in Africa. END
