Emilia-Romagna: Giuseppina’s (103) Panda is gone – now she wants to drive a motorbike

Giuseppina Molinari was caught driving without a license or insurance. But the determined pensioner doesn’t want to be stopped.

  • In the middle of the night, Giuseppina Molinari was stopped because she was lost.

  • It quickly became clear: she didn’t have a valid driving license and her panda wasn’t insured.

  • Now the 103-year-old decided to switch to two wheels.

She is one of Italy’s oldest traffic offenders: After losing her car, a Fiat Panda, Italian pensioner Giuseppina “Giose” Molinari (103) now wants to buy a moped. The still sprightly old lady, who was born in 1920, was stopped in the middle of the night at the beginning of the week in the small town of Bondeno in the north of the country because she always drove through the same streets. During the check, a police patrol discovered that she was driving without a driver’s license and without insurance.

The white small car was then confiscated. The 103-year-old expressed her regret on the Rai television station on Wednesday. At the same time she announced: “I would like to buy a moped so as not to lose my independence.” She currently rides a bike.

Molinari is probably one of the oldest traffic offenders ever stopped on Italy’s roads. According to her own account, she had set off by car to visit friends outside of the city. She obviously lost her bearings. The police then had the car towed around one in the morning and took the old lady home.

“When I reach this age, I’ll do whatever I want.”

But she doesn’t want to let the mishap stop her. She told RAI: “I want to maintain my network of friendships. And I would also like to be able to carry out my obligations independently, from shopping to playing cards.” Even before her 100th birthday, Giuseppina had always emphasized: “When I reach this age, I will do what I want.”

As “Il Resto de Carlino” reports, Molinari was caught a few months ago. The police report states that Giose showed up to renew her driver’s license but did not receive it. She then simply continued driving, even though she knew that she was violating the road traffic regulations. Even now the people in Bondeno say: “It will be a big problem for Giose to stay at home in Vigarano alone with her chickens without coming to the square in Bondeno and eating ice cream.”
