“Lebanese Debate”

Responsibilities continue to be exchanged for the loss of difficult medicines, as the result remains disastrous for the health of the patient, which causes the possibility of losing his life. What are the reasons behind depriving them of medicine?

In this context, the former head of the Pharmacists Syndicate in Lebanon, George Saili, stressed that “the lack of funding for medicines is the main reason behind the loss of difficult and cancerous medicines in Lebanon.”

In an interview with the “Lebanese Debate”, he considered that “the method of support that was adopted by the Ministry of Health was wrong, as medicines were subsidized at the beginning of the crisis, and it was better not to support them.”

And he stressed that “what has made things worse today is the introduction of the Meditrack system at the wrong time, and the Ministry is trying today to implement it in a way that violates the laws of the pharmacy profession, and pharmacists have been threatened that, if they do not follow this system, they will be referred to behavioral accountability and referred to inspection, This is against the law, suspending Article 70.”

He revealed that “a general assembly was formed in the Pharmacists Syndicate, in which the pharmacists completely refused to have a direct link with the ministry through the Meditrack system, considering this system as a monitoring by the ministry of every movement made by the pharmacy.”

He added, “Nevertheless, we showed some kind of positivity towards this system, in the event that this system is only related to medicines supported by the Ministry of Health.”

And he stressed that “the Minister of Health insists on introducing the Meditrack system into pharmacies, as if he had a direct problem with pharmacists, indicating that” the minister has the right to force us in the event that we violate the decisions and legislative laws, but the minister today violates Article 70, asking: How does the Minister of Health issue An administrative decision that violates the law? And he threatens us with discipline?”

He revealed that “pharmacists appealed the decision to link the Meditrack in pharmacies, and a decision was issued by the State Shura Council to suspend implementation, and this indicates that there is something suspicious.”

He pointed out that “there is a serious problem with the minister, and this problem is translated today on the ground, which led to the interruption of medicines and what is reflected in the patient’s health. The policy that the ministry has followed for 10 years is wrong and threatens the lives of many patients who may face death.”

He revealed that “the ministry needs about 60 million dollars for such medicines, but what is insured today does not exceed 25 million dollars, and this means that the other half is insured from the citizen’s pocket, if he can secure it.”

In conclusion, Saili considered, “The minister uses the Meditrack system as an excuse, with the supreme national interest and the interest of the patient, under the exploitation of the dire economic situation that the citizen is going through, considering that the minister passes suspicious projects for suspicious interests.”
