adjournment of municipal and regional elections

The municipal and regional elections scheduled for January 22, 2023 have been postponed to July 16, 2023 throughout the territory of the Central African Republic (CAR), we learned on Wednesday from the president of the National Elections Authority ( ANE), Mathias Barthélémy Morouba.

According to him, the postponement is due primarily to the delay in raising funds for the organization of these elections.

“We made a timetable. We have a budget which has been prepared and distributed. Unfortunately, we do not have the funding as planned. With part of this money, we were able to do the electoral mapping”, explained Mr. Morouba.

According to this official of the ANE, among the reasons for the postponement of the elections are also the delays in setting up the dismemberments, and in the revision of the electoral roll to take into account young people who have just reached the age under 18, deceased persons, refugees and displaced persons, etc.

As part of the new calendar, the proclamation of the final results is scheduled for December 13, 2023 and the publication of the final composition of municipal councilors on December 16, 2023.
