Aegio Dance Club: Celebrated the 160th anniversary of the Union of the Ionian Islands with Greece PHOTO – 2024-03-28 05:57:06

The 160th anniversary of the Union of the Ionian Islands with Greece was celebrated on Sunday, March 24, with the music and dance performance organized by the Dance Club of Aegion in collaboration with the Region of Western Greece and under the auspices of the Municipality of Aegialia.

The event was greeted by the President of the Dance Club, Giorgos Nikolopoulos, welcoming the spectators who flooded the hall of the “Apollo” Cinema, Aigalians as well as our fellow citizens who draw their origin from the Ionian Islands.

The start of the show was touching with the interpretation of the Ode “Elpis Patridos” by A. Kalvos, composed and orchestrated by Sakis Papadimitriou, while the tour of the chronicle of the Union of the Ionian Islands with Greece, with rich historical references and information from the Ionian Library and the music teacher, member of the Polyphonic Choir, Maria Stavraki, marked the event.

The participation of the Polyphonic Choir of Aegialia of the Association of Kefallinians & Ithacaians of Aegialia & Kalavryta “Saint Gerasimos” which performed Odes from the Hymn to Freedom by D. Solomos under the musical direction of Aliki Zafeiris and transported the audience musically to the sound of the chants in the islands of Iptanissos.
Like a light wave from the Ionian Sea, the dance suites curated by the dance teachers of the Aegian Dance Club, cooled and enchanted the spectators, who were left to their spectacle. Lively Zakynthians, beautiful Corfu women, stately Lefkada women, young people from Kythira and Kefallonia flooded the stage with their impressive costumes, excited with their dancing figures and won with their joy the prolonged applause of the audience.

The event was honored with the presence of representatives of the Local Government, Cultural Associations of Aegialia and the Educational Community. The Holy Diocese of Kalavryta & Aegialia was represented by the Archpriest Father Christos Tsakalos, while the Municipal Authority was represented by the President of the Municipal Council of Aegialia Mrs. Maria Yida, the Deputy Mayor of Public Relations, Communication, Etiquette & Events Mrs. Maria Angelopoulou, as well as the council member of the Municipal Unit of Aigio and Eleftheria Marnelis.
