Russia’s national team clearly won its first international match against a European team since the beginning of the war. Coach Valeri Karpin’s team won 4-0 (2-0) against European Championship participants Serbia in Moscow.

The twins Anton (21st/foul penalty) and Aleksej Mirantschuk (55th) scored in the majority, as did Maksim Osipenko (32nd) and Ivan Sergejew (90th + 1). Serbia’s Milan Gajic was shown a red card in the 21st minute.

Serbia received a signing bonus of 250,000 euros for the short trip to Russia. Despite the Russian association’s exclusion from all competitions at club and national team level, Serbia had no problem with the game.

UEFA boss Aleksander Ceferin made similar comments in a Guardian interview. “Now they’re playing a friendly match: so what?” said the UEFA boss.
