After a massive cyber attack on the Lower Austrian community of Korneuburg, the authorities assume that the attack was carried out by Russians. According to the current status of the investigation, the attack was probably carried out by the international group of perpetrators “Lockbit”, said Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) and Mayor Christian Gepp (ÖVP), according to several media reports. There have now been two arrests in Poland and Ukraine.
Around two thirds of the PCs and servers can now be operated once more, explained Gepp, referring to the attack around two weeks ago. However, ransom demands were not met.
The NCA in Great Britain and Europol took the lead in the investigation. According to Karner, the Federal Criminal Police Office was also involved.
