Mahmoud Dahoud will leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer. The national player is now commenting on SPORT1 about his departure from the black and yellow.
After six years it will be over in the summer! Mahmoud Dahoud and Borussia Dortmund will go their separate ways after the season.
Sports director Sebastian Kehl announced on Monday Bild, what in SPORTS1 Podcast “Die Dortmund-Woche” has already been hinted at: “I had a very open and honest conversation with Mo last week. I informed him that we will not be renewing his contract in the summer. Mo has been with us for six years now, he’s a very good footballer and I really have a very high opinion of him on a sporting and personal level. Nevertheless, we decided to take this step.”
Exclusive to SPORTS1 Dahoud now comments on the forthcoming farewell: “The time at Dortmund was wonderful and, above all, the fans always supported me,” says the 27-year-old wistfully. “So there is a special connection. I am very grateful for that.”

On Thursday, the day after the 1-0 win against Chelsea, the ex-Gladbacher and his agent met in Sebastian Kehl’s office in Dortmund. There, both sides jointly analyzed that saying goodbye is the best solution. Dahoud, who is undoubtedly one of the most experienced players in the black and yellow squad from a technical point of view, was never an undisputed regular player during his time at BVB. In 137 competitive games for BVB, the technician scored five goals and gave 16 assists. In the summer of 2017, the Syrian-born professional came from Mönchengladbach as a mega-talent for a fee of around twelve million euros and was given a top salary.
In the summer of 2021, BVB prematurely extended the contract by another year. Dahoud is said to have accepted a drop in salary. Extending the working paper by another year made little sense to both sides.

This year, the two-time national player, who has now recovered from a serious shoulder injury and was always in contact with national coach Hansi Flick during the difficult time, hardly got a chance. The eight comes after only two brief appearances against Freiburg and Bremen.

“I am really looking forward to a new challenge.
