After recovering from “Omicron”… How long does immunity last?

Elaf from Beirut: Within a few months, the new mutant of the Corona virus “Omicron” swept the world, leaving behind millions of infected people, a large number of whom recovered and retained antibodies to the virus that causes “Covid-19” disease.

Some feel that they are very strong, especially with their recovery from “Omicron”, which gave them antibodies that give them strong immunity, in addition to the fact that they had received the vaccine earlier.

They believe that it is impossible for them to catch corona again.

How long does this immunity last?

A recent study from Oregon Health and Science University showed that a combination of Omicron infection and a vaccine can lead to “super immunity”, regardless of whether the infection was before or after vaccination.

As for an expert in infectious diseases at the University of California, Peter Chen Hong, he believes that antibodies begin to decline in humans after a period of about 3 to 6 months.

It is possible that people are at risk of getting infected again, Hong added.

However, he stressed that when the antibodies start decreasing, this does not mean that the immune system has forgotten how to fight the virus.

He explained, “The antibodies are important to prevent this first viral attack, but the internal immune system, T cells and B cells, remain active for a long time.”

He pointed out that the hybrid immunity that lasts a long time includes the vaccine and the natural infection with corona, considering that it is better than anything else.
