Again heavy protests in Iran

Thousands of people have again taken to the streets in Iran to protest after the death of a young woman in police custody. Violent clashes broke out again between demonstrators and security forces during the night.

Live ammunition shots at the protesters are also reported on videos that could not be verified. Meanwhile, Iranian soccer star Ali Karimi has also expressed his solidarity with the protests.

The Internet is severely restricted, mobile networks in particular are largely switched off. Instagram, one of the last free social networks, was also blocked.

Thousands of people take to the streets

The ex-professional Karimi received encouragement from many Iranians who took to the streets against the death of a young woman in police custody. “Don’t be afraid of strong women. Maybe the day will come when they will be your only army,” wrote the ex-professional, who was also committed to the German Bundesliga in the past, on Twitter. Karimi lives in Iran herself.

The protests were triggered by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. She was arrested by the vice squad a week ago for violating the strict Islamic dress code. What exactly happened to Amini after her arrest is unclear, but she fell into a coma and died in a hospital on Friday.

Critics accuse the morality police of using violence. The police deny the allegations. Since then, thousands of people have been demonstrating across the country against the government’s repressive course.
