AGL’s Contribution to the 2Africa Project: Reliable Fiber Optic Connectivity in Congo and the DRC

AGL provided the logistics of the cables intended to serve the Congo and the DRC, as part of the “2Africa” project which aims to set up the largest submarine fiber optic cable in the world, connecting Africa to the Europe and the Middle East.

In the DRC, 89 tonnes of cables and various equipment from France and intended for this project were handled by AGL RDC teams. They ensured customs clearance, storage and transport from Matadi to Muanda where this equipment is deployed.

In Congo-Brazzaville, 45 tons of cables sent by ship from France were delivered to Congo’s territorial waters. To carry out this project, AGL mobilized equipment dedicated to the delivery of cables on the high seas. The company also managed customs clearance and administrative formalities linked to this exceptional operation.

Implemented by an association of technology companies led by META (formerly Facebook), the “2Africa” project aims to guarantee reliable, high-speed internet connectivity to three billion people across Africa, Asia and Africa. ‘Europe. It should ensure the connection of 16 African countries including the DRC and Congo-Brazzaville. This project, which contributes to the digital transformation of the African continent, is one of the challenges to which AGL is contributing as part of its growth strategy serving the transformations of Africa.

Thanks to the logistics solutions offered by AGL, these cables were successfully installed in September 2023, in the territorial waters of Congo and the DRC. They now allow both countries to benefit from an additional fiber optic network and better internet network quality.
