The aid of 10,000 euros for tobacconists who remained closed at least three days after the urban violence, announced by the Minister Delegate for Public Accounts Thomas Cazenave on Wednesday, is a relief for the traders affected. In total, more than 500 tobacconists were damaged.

On Wednesday, the Minister Delegate for Public Accounts Thomas Cazenave announced aid of 10,000 euros for tobacconists who remained closed for at least 3 days after the urban violence. More than 500 tobacco shops have been damaged. Europe 1 went to meet a family tobacconist – with five employees – in the Paris region, relieved by this aid.
“We live in hell”
Two new metal curtains, but other than that, nothing changed. In this tobacco shop, closed for more than a month, everything was ransacked during the riots. “They came to at least 50 people. They broke everything, whether it was the tobacco department, cigars, stationery. They also set fire in front of the tobacco,” laments Yves, the deputy manager of the premises, at the microphone of Europe 1 which estimates the damage at 200,000 euros.
And for the moment, he has only received 55,000 euros in compensation from his insurance. He is worried about the future of this family business, which opened 25 years ago. “Currently, we are living in hell with these fights with insurance. And even having subscribed to the maximum rates and with very good insurance, we are still waiting”, indignantly the trader.
So an aid of 10,000 euros, for him, is a real breath of fresh air, at least in the short term. “We can breathe a little to pay the employees, to pay for the works or to try to revive the trade as quickly as possible”, hopes the tobacconist. Yves is waiting for more compensation from his insurance to start the rest of the work, with no hope of being able to reopen his tobacconist before the beginning of October.
